Permanent Exhibition

The Eduard Tubin Museum in Alatskivi Castle was completed in spring 2011 through cooperation between Alatskivi Municipality and the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum. The museum exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of the life and work of Eduard Tubin, one of Estonia’s most renowned composers.

The exhibition opens with an introduction to prominent musicians who studied together with Tubin under Heino Eller, the so-called Tartu School: Eduard Oja, Alfred Karindi, Olav Roots, and Karl Leichter.

The museum displays and presents Tubin’s manuscripts, recordings, and books, introduces the interpreters of his music, and showcases musical instruments associated with Tubin, as well as records and theatre set designs. Visitors can also view films and photographs created by Tubin himself.

The chamber hall hosts lectures and concerts. Through an information terminal, visitors can access a complete catalogue of Tubin’s works, explore a virtual exhibition created for his 100th birthday, and browse a virtual photo album. Naturally, Tubin’s music is heard throughout the museum—the very raison d’être of the institution.

An additional exhibition, “Tubin’s Car,” is located in the garage of the Alatskivi Castle parking area. On display is the composer’s Plymouth Valiant, along with an overview of the Tubin family’s travels.
